CunisTOHUUCtf, September 14. The Canterbury Arc Society's Black and Whlto M nochrome Exhibition was opened this evening; by Biohmond Buthft'm.RM., who, daring the ceremony, presented tho Hii-nane Society's certificate to Ja«. Hy. Parker, who sav»d a mm from drowning at Sumner. The exhibition 0 mprieed 140 pictures from nearly all parts of the Colony. The average merit was superior to laot year's exhibition.
H. Robortß, hairdresser, who has annonnoed himeelf as m opposition to £ir S. Yogel for Chrißtchuroh North, addressed a meeting m the Foresters' Hall this evening, to a large attendance, most * f those present seemingly regarding the whole affair rb ft j >ko. The spesker was continually chaffed and inter apted, aad a good deal of egg and flour-throwing was indulged m. Waaaey was m the ball, and was almost mobbed, Roberta opposed tho tarift proposals <f the Oovernroent, but oould not follow Hall or Atkinson. A vote of thanks and confidence was paased amid great laughter and confusion.
