MR PALMER AT TH E ODDFELLOWS HALL.

Last evening Mt W. Palmer, one of the candidates for Rangitata, addressed a meeting at the Oddfellows' Hall. • There wore about 150 present, and aa the Mayor Was unable to attend, Mr B. Hughes was asked to take the chair. The Chairman briefly introduced the speaker, asking for him a fair hearing, Mr Palmer denied the truth of the etatements that he had received illusage at the Hinde. He spoke to oimiiar effect as at Wakanni, a report of which meeting j has already appeared m our colnmua He enlarged on some of the topics to some extent, but the speeoh was m all respects substantially the same. At the close of the address the candidate was orosa examined by Mr Brown In reference to hla views on Protective duties. Mr Oaten announced that if Mr Palmer had been an old "politician" he would have put seme Bevere [questions to him, but as he was only a young man he would oot do bo. Mr EUton propoied, and Mr J. W. Moßae seconded a vote of thanks, which wan carried. Mr Palmer returned thanks, and a vote of thanks to the ohalr oonoluded the proceedings.
