INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.
Wellington, August 31. A pharge of larceny, preferred against Godfrey Howard Shepherd by George Wyatt, was heard to-day and dismissed. The evidence showed that prosecutor's wife had left him and gone to reside In the house occupied by accused, who had been arrested for stealing articles which Mrs Wyatt bad taken from her husband's house.
Palmerbton Forth, August 31, Au exciting incident 1 occurred at Awahuri yesterday, consequent ou the recent case brought if to the Supreme Court by MsoDonald, to obtain tho ejectment of Maoris from his property, on which they had squatted. He obtained the necessary wrilß, and yesterday the Sheriff, Mr Woon, and Mr Hankins, solloitor for Mao Donald, accompanied by a posse of twelve men, proceeded to tho spot to turn the Maoris out. The visit was quite unexpected, as the Maoris were ploughing at the time ; bat they refused to leave the ground when asked by Mr VVonn, and chained up the g»te. The party effected an entrance at anoth< r place, and the ejectment was carried out without violence, although some difficulty jwm expi&feoced with the women. The Maoris subsequently bongrogated m large numbers. A telegram waa received advising the Maoris not to give up possession at any cost, but it was too late.
DuxfEDiH, August 31. A certificate of the Royal Humane Sookty of Australasia was publicly presented this afternoon by the Mayor to D. G. Stephen, who was instrumental m restortag animation, after two hoars' continuous work, m the case of the girl Agnes Ferguson, ten years of age. The girl's father and five other children were drowned on the occasion.
