The following telegram has been handed to us for publication : — ; August 27th 1887. To Hon. fir J. Vogol, Christchurcb, — Rumored that Kail way Department has issued circular forbidding employees to vote. Please contradict Should not Government set example to private employees by notifying that leave will be given to employees on polling day without deduction wages for sufficient time to enable them to record their votes. Have wired Premier to Bume effect. "Wm. J Steward.
Christchurch, August 29th To Major Steward, — Bumor about circular forbidding rail* way employees to vote not true. They will be allowed, as they were before, to vote, and to have reasonable time wichout deduction of wageß, to reoord their votes. Mr Richardson informed me to above effect, and it meets the viewa'you express, Jumps Yogel.
