Jealousy made his former love revive as soon as he heard this news, and he Immediately returned to Arohldona. Ho found the tax collector undor his dulolnea's window.' dootor at once dtaoloood himself and demanded that his fiance should deoide between her old loyer ane the tax oolleotor. She ohoße the dootor and the two were married within the shortest possible time, greatly to the fury of the dUoardod tax colleotor. The marriage was a happy one, and undisturbed by any quarrel or ill-feeling. About a year later a female ohild was born. Meanwhile the tax oolleotor had apparently become their devoted friend. One day six months ego the neighborhood was uhooked by a terrible explosion. It was thought at first that it was the powder magazine, but it proved to have taken place at the dootor s villa. That morning the dootor had received a box by the railway company's express. It contained an Infernal machine. In opening the box the machine exploded and both the physlolan and his wife were Instantly killed. The ortme was slowly but directly traced to the tax oolleotor and a despatch anuounoei his condemnation to death.
