The village of St.' Joseph, about niae tniios north of Orangvillu, jadUna, was excited, by what w^3 at firafc tmpposed to be aq earthquake A short, whlp.like aound was heard nbjut 7 o'olook, accompanied by a Blight* tram r of the earth. An aerolite of enormous dimensions had fallen m the vicinity. It Taa aoon located m a small piece of woods, where it was foand, having embedded itself (a the earth to the d?pth of 15 or 20 feat. In descending it had orushed an immansa tree, and mida * hole m the earth of about thirty feat m circumference. A vast amount of earth had civad m upon it. rendering it impjaslble to reaofi without great labor. Several fragments of stono vrere pioked up about the p'aia ha?ii»4 a strong smell of sulphur. In it eatimited (hit the etuna weighs naarly two toil*.
