IRISH AFFAIRS.
[muie&'s telegrams— copyright.] London, August 23. A meeting was held to-day at Dublin m opposition to the proclamation against the National League. The hall was crammed. The proceedings passed off m an orderly manner. Mr Jacob Bright and other English members of Parliament, who were present, denounced the proclamation, but counselled moderation. Messrs Dillon, O'Brien and others defied the Government, and declared the triumph of the League certain.
[srECIM, TO PBESS ASSOCIATION.] London, August 23. The debate m the House of Commons on .the motion to proclaim the Irish National League is exciting much interest. Mr Gladstone, who has returned to London, has intimated his intention to table a motion on Thursday that an address be presented to her Majesty the^Queen, opposing the proclamation. The Gladstonian Liberals are determined to use their utmost powers m opposition to ' the Government obtaining Parliamentary sanction to the proclamation. Fifty of these Liberals are undecided whether to join the League.
