THE NEXT CENSUS.
A copy of the following resolution, passed by the council of the Royal Golonial la* otitnte at a meeting held on Tuesday, February 1, 1887, was stmt to Sit H«ory Holland :— •'• The eounoll of tht Royal Colonial Institute deem it desirable that whenever it is decided to take the next census of the United Kingdom Her Majesty's Government and the surer*! Governments of colonies should consider and endeavor to make arrangement! for bavlng the census of the whola Empire taken on one and the tame day, and ai far asprac icablo In the same form." A copy was also sent to the president of the Imperial Colonial Oonferenoe. The following reply was reoeived from the Colonial Office :— " Febraary 12th- 1887. Sir,— l am direoted by Secretary Sir Henry Holland to acknowledge the receipt of your letter on the 2nd last, onoloiing a copy of a resolution dated February 1, 1887, passed by the council of the Institute, urging the desirability of taking the next cansuu of the Empire on ona and the same day, and as far as practicable m the same form. In reply lam to state to you, fur the Information of the eounoll of the lußtituto, that Her Majesty's Government have always endeavored to osnse auoh an arrangement to be made, *nd I am told to add that the Importance of this principle will not be loot sight of on the next occialou 1 am, Sir, your obedient servant, Robert G.
