DEATH OF A FAMOUS CONJORER
Professor Herrmann, tbe '* Prince of Conjurers," aB be called hlin.elf, died re cently at Carlsbad, after a short illness, at the age of 72. He was born m Hanover. His profession brought' him many honors and a large fortune. His tours extended over tbe whole world, and there was probably not a single Royal Court m Europe before which be did not perform. The unfortunate Soltan Abdul Aziz was among bis warmest admirers, and used to pay him a thousand pounds Turkish for every representat'on. During one of these performances he exhibited two pigeons, one white end one black, and managed to plaoe the white head on the black pigeon and vice versa. This pleased the Sultan greatly, and he asked Herrmana to try the. Barae trick with a back and a .rhite slave, but the o tojurer declared that that was beyond his power. The Czir Nicholas also bestowed great favors on Hermann, who, ft is aald, received a million roubles for one Russian tour. He leaves a large fortuue, and a collection of rare antiquities, which he spared no trouble or cost m amassing.
