a, Timaru, August 16. At the Supreme Oourt this morning the Grand Jury returned true bills against Riohard Makepeace Eversleigb, larceny, and Ihos. Terry, sheep stealing. The former is now being tried and has succeeded m fogging the prinoipal witness for the prosecution, 0. Y. Ola'k, Waimate. _ IKVEROAEOU_L, AugU.t 16. The Supreme Court opened to-day before Judge Williams. The oriminal oalendar is very light there being only three prisoners all charged with forgery, fonr ch.rgea of forgery and two of embezzlement being preferred against J. K. Lea, iate town clerk of Winton. Io hia charge to the Grand Jury the Judge referred to the case m which a man named Henry Caster altered a cheque tor £2 given him by his brother to £3, and said it wa. a trifling case and almost a pity thoro wa 1 not some provision enabling Magistrates to deal with such a ease summanly and so avoid the expense of bringing It into the Supreme Court. - The Grand Jury fonnd no bill m the case m question. \>K :
