Captain Somervllle sends as (Danedln Evening Star) ihe dralt programme for the next meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association, to be hf-ld at Oatnaru. In anticipation of the arrival of the Remington-Lee rifle, and the probability that it will bo the weapon need next year, it ie proposed to Increase the range up to l.OOOyards, and each membor of the Council is Invited to call a meeting of the shooting men m his district and to obtain their opinions on the subject. The idea of 'oDg-range Bhooting may auit Blenheim and Wanganui very well, but It shoull b) borne m mind that it would be impossible to get a range np to 1,000 yards down here, It la proposed to divide the protratnmo into two Btageu, to substantially increase the prlzn-money. and to add a team match. The latter will be tired by twenty men a-team, cne teim to ba seleoted from Volunteers belonging to each of the following dUtrlcts :— • •uckland and Thames, Taranakl tnd Wanganui, Wellington and Napier, Nelson, Marlborough end Westland, Canterbury, Otago and Souihland. The Afßociation Is now Jn aflonrablng position, hiving a crecifc balance at the bank of £191.
