Mapier. August 12. The first annual meeting of the Napier Park Racing Company was held to-day. .The rt'koa paid during the year amounted to £2707, the total expenditure being £4211. At a meeting of tho Committse of the Chamber of Commerce the necessity of some action being taken with a view to the colony being represented at the Co tennlal Exhibition, which Is to be held m Melbourne next year, was discussed, and it was resolyed that the Chairman interview Sir Julius Yogel as to the preliminary steps to be taken.
The City Corporation have secured a windfall from the sinking fond, the judge having deo'ded that they are entitled to a refund from the Commissioners of £10,224 This will make a substantial reductioa m the overdraft.
A deputation from master printers waited on Sir Julius Yogel to point out to him the injaatioe done them by allowing printed stationery, etc , to be admitted free, pointing out that if they imported envelopes they bad to pay duty, but if Banks i r other bodies imported tham with a line of print on them they were admitted free. Sir Julius Yogel asked the deputation to supply him with a list of materials to which this applied. fhe Poultry and Pigeon Society's annual show was very successful. The entries were muoh more numerous than on former opgaalong.
