" TEMPERANCE" BEVERAGES

. ■. ■ ♦■ —_ . Teetotallers, says the " Dundee Advertiser," will have cause for reflection when they read of "black currant wine," 11 finest raspberry cordial," and " superior brown ginger " being made tbe eubjeot of Excise proaeoutloos. These liquors, it seems, may contain as muoh as 15 per cent, 17 per cent, and 20 per cent of ptootepirit. As champagne wine averages about 14 percent of alcohol, Madeira wine about 19 per cent, and port wine 20 per cent, it ia evidently safer to quaff honest tipples than home-brewed imitation*, to say nothing of its being more delectable. Tho people who drink these beverages are doubtless as innocent as the people who Bell them. We sympathise with the party who said that she never puapepted she was doing anything wrong m selling black currant wine. Nobody would ever suppose that under so innocent a name there lurked so mnoh teetotallers' poison. It is a pity that e7en Buoh right-minded people as our temperance friends are deceived m this faihioa. Henceforth they moot be on their guard, and must resort to the Burgh Analyst for a certificate that their liquors are pure and innoouous. Unless this be done guests at a teetotal dinner will nover be sure that they may not rise next morning with a worae head* aohe than if the dinner had not been teetotal.
