Symons, charged with trying to raise money nnder false pretences, was comraitted for trial. Wellington, August 3. The adjourned meeting oftho Wellington Woollen Company was held to-night. The report of the Committee appointed to investigate a aeries of charges against certain Dlreotora of the Company for unnecessary and useless expenditure In connection with the erection of the. works, tic, was read, and exonerated the Directors from the charges. Certain mistakes "had beon made m the mechanical department, and sums of money wasted m that department, but such mistakes were ' incidental to starting a new concern. The report of tho Committee was adopted, and the annual report and balanoe*Bheet passed. A laborer named Madden met with an accident at Kaltoke on Monday, which necessitated the amputation of a leg. He was working at a cutting on tbe railway line, when the bank gare way, and the earth falling upon him broke hli leg. A Scandinavian named Myers, while ont shooting at Grey town yesterday, met with an accident owing to the gun exploding, which shattered hii wrist and arm, which had to be amputated. The fourth body, that of Ashton, drowned at Petone a fortnight ago, was picked op on the beach to-day. A meeti-.g of old soldiers wai held tonight, and it was decided to urge upon the representatives of the oily m Parliament to take measures to have their land claims inquired into by a Commission ; also to ask the co-operation of tho Volunteer* and old soldiers m the colony having similar claims. Dunedin, August 3. A young man named John Smith has been drowned at Lake Wakatlpn, The anniversary foundation day of the Boys' High Sohool was kept to-day by the pant and present pupils playing a football match against a team put m the field by the Rugby Union. The school won by seven points to four, la the evening a dinner was held, whioh was largely attended.
