The tree-planting movement began m Nebraska only fifteen years ago, and since that time it la estimated that over seven hundred thousand acres of trees have been pasted m that State. Arbor Day m Minnesota, Erst observed m 1876, resulted it is said, m planting over a million and a-half of trees. In Michigan tho Arbor Day law was parsed m 1881, and m Ohio m 1882 Since then Arbor Day has been observed ! In Colorado, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Indiana. Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, Naw Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts, Kansas instituted tbe day aoon af ;ec it was adopted lv Nebraskr. In several other States its observance has boon secured by the recommendation of agricultural societies and other organiz itionu. It is expaotod that the New York Legislature will aot upon the subjaok The observance cf tree-planting is urged as a ppeolal feature ,lv Sohoois. Arbor Day Is an institution which may be commended on various -praotioal grounds, economic, eeitnetlo, moral and educational. Its general observance cannot fail to be of vast practical benefit and the sooner a similar movement takes place In Australia the better for the future of the country. Already many parts m Australia have been de forested.
