■* London, July 16. Belgium proposes to send exhibits not sold at the Adelaide Exhibition to Melbourne, but the London Committee of the Melbourne Exhibition are urging her to forward entirely new exhibits. Mr Browne, Mayor of Newcastle, has purchased the interest held by Mr John Waddingtcn's Syndicate m the Western Australian railways, and has formed a Company for the construction of the line from Guilford to Geraldtown. London, July 17. The French officials' are indisposed to grant the postal concessions asked for by Sir Graham Berry and Sir Saul Samuel, but ask for further time to consider, Trials of the Brennan torpedo (at Sheerness) were a complete success. At different ranges the torpedo repeatedly struck a rapidly-moving vessel. Sir J. Lorimer and Captain Allan Thomas expressed the opinion that the torpedo would be useful for Australian defence. The English, cSottish and Australian Chartered Bank have declared a dividend of 10 per cent.
