Dr F, Fitohett, L.L.D , is likely to be a candidate for Dunedin Central as protect.onkt.
Meaars W. B. Edwards and A. De B Brandon, solicitors, and Mr J. Ooombe are candidates f >r Wellington South.
Accordiog to the correspondent of the " Press " Mr Allen's chanoea for Dunedin East are daily improving, and were the eleotions held at an early date I beliove be would most certainly be returned.
A statement is current to the effect that efforts are being made to induce tha Mayor of Ohrlstohurch to contest Obriatohuroh South in the forthcoming election, and that there Ib every probability of his Worship consenting to stand. Mr Thomas Kelly has announced his intention of standing for the Taranaki district. There are four candidates now ln the field — Colonel Trimble, and Messrs Elliott, Kelly, and Maroham. For New Plymouth Mr Samuel Is the only genuine candidate as yet out. Mr Snell, a farmer, has announced himself ln print. '' Ironsand Smith " will be nominated also. It Is believed he stands in the interests of the working men. Mr F. Lawry, candidate for Franklin North, addressed a meeting of elestors on Monday, and reoeived a vote of thanks and confidence. He expressed himself in favor of retrenchment, of an income tax instead of one on property and of local option. He would oppose bible-read loj; in -chiols, and would vote against the present Government.
Nothing has yet been decided about an opponent to Mr o rtnond for Napier. Captain Russell will bo opposed for Hawke's Bay by Arthur Desmond, a working man a red-hot di-clple of Hanry George, and a willing execu.loner of all " oppressors " of the working man* Mr Smith, the present member for the greater part of the new district, and Mr Baker, the lately retired Commissioner of Or own lands for Hawke's Bay, are oat for Woodville. For the new Watpawa district Mr Sutton- an ex-M.H R ; Mr Tanner a popular landholder ; and Mr R Harding s relative of the Ohief of the 1.0.G.T.'s snd as yet unknown to fame, are candidates, A fourth, if not also a fifth, 'will appear. Mr Lascelles, a solicitor, of Napier, will stand In the extreme liberal | Interest, unleaa he gives way in favor of Mr Barker, carpenter, of Waipawa.
