CATTLE DISEASE

Wellington, July 12. The following telegram has been received by the Government from Mr Buchanan, M.H.R., re the outbreak of the epidemic amougst oattle m the Walrarapa :— " i have the aothority of tbe owner, Mr J. Russell, for stating that tho disease is confined to four or five grazing m. a particular ptddook, whore the grass Is badly ergoted. Medical men will tell you that the symptoms are exaatly the same as those familiar on the Continent, where rye bread forms so large a proportion of the food of the people. Rye is peculiarly susceptible to a disease called ergot. You may rest assured there Is do epidemic.
