The following, forwarded to the •'Lyltelton Timea" by ita Wellington oo'rreoponde.nt, explains a Proas Association telegram publlahod elsewhere: —According to aocountß received by the Native Department ftotn the Weat Coast To Whitl is trying what ho can do, In an indirect waj, to make himself an annoyance to the Government, Rooeutly several cases of sly-grog soiling have been discovered In the vicinity of Parihaka, and m one ca3o the oflfendor is a man who was one of the most turbulent of Te Whiti'a followers; and it is stated that he had been encouraged m hia lawless aot by the prophet. It is father said that oortain half-oaotes and Europeans who are eupposed to have personal grievances against the Government havb been using their influence to get Te Whitl to assert himself; stating that as the Government had been defeated they had nosr no power to interfere. The Native Department is aald to hove undeniable proof of this. The sly -grog sellers* will bo prosecuted m due course.
