THE FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS.
The delimiting of the boundaries of the various electorates, under the new Representation Bill has considerably affected the old electoral districts, as far as this locality is concerned. The description of the boundaries, as published m our last issue, will have doubtless been read with a great deal of interest. It will have been seen that the old electorate of Ashburton has been diminished greatly m area, all the country south of the Ashburton river, excepting Tinwald town district, being cut off and included m the new electorate of Rangitata. The town district of Tinwald and Hampstead, which were formerly m the Wakamri con stituency, have been added to Ashburlon, as have also the township of South Rakaia and the country west of the main trunk line of railway, which also were previously included m the same electorate. Wakanui as the name of a constituency has ceased to exist. What is not absorbed by Ashburton, goes with portion of the latter electorate, and of that of Geraldine to form a new district to which has been given the name of Rangitata. Although rumor had mentioned the names of two or three gentlemen likely to seek election to Parliament for the districts m which this county is interested nothing very definite '.ransspired, possible candidates m all probability holding back till the results of the labors of the Representation Commissioners were announced, and it was known with certainty what the boundaries of the electorates were. Now that this is known the electors will very soon have the opportunity of choosing the men who are to represent them. For Rangitata it is quite likely thf i there will be several Richmonds m the field. Mr Rolleston has determined to stand, and we believe Mr Ivess has also decided to come forward. For Ashburton the old member, MrW. C. Walker, will stand, and so far there has been little talk of an opponent to him, and certainly no one has been mentioned who would have the ghost of a chance. However, though not much is known as yet as to what gentlemen are likely to come forward, that is a matter which will speedily be set at rest, and m a few weeks time the electors will be called upon to make their choice.
