AN AMUSING STORY
The Englifib "Fishing Gazette " quotes from an exchange the following extraordinavy rn6 amusing combination of business with pleasure : — "An amusing, not to Bay edifying, spectacle was witneeted at Llanbadarn a few Sundays ago duriou; the progress of tbe ceremony of baptism by immersion. It sonnds more like fhtion than the truth ; but r.3 the lattor is always credited with being the Btranger of the two, we vouch fc« the eceuracy of the following :— The <r emony of baptism m the river had been prot iding m a quiet business-like manner, for some time, aod all but one had been dipped. Baying placed himself man ot.h(d>x position, he was plunged into the water by the tffio'aMcg minister ; but wHt wes the a^tonfahment of the apeotatora to ccc their newly made brother suddenly relc .se himself from the grasp of the minister and fljunder about m the moat erratic, fa-hion m the water, making sundry grabs at something and shouting, " Ive got him 1" Ik was thought by many at first that he had got 'em— the initials of » ler.diag morning newspaper. However, the Oiuae for this sudden oat break on the part of the individual was soon apparent. "It wss no (ess a cause than a fine salmon that he had caught sight of as he wi being ducked, and he at once made tracVs for it, and the stream being shallow at that pointj he.thought he had a ohanoe of a < apture. "The exoltement was intenoe as he dodged his finny Oom> \nion of tbe Bath up and down the stream. The love of a Radnorshire man for sa'mon is proverbial, and the truth of it wr i soon proved on this occa?ioo. One by one the congregation joined m the fray, tbe minister could not keep bia hands off, the deacons were already hard at it, but still the salmon had the best of (t, through a very lively time " We blush for the aex, but, nevertheless, notwithstanding, it is true. The exoitement was so oat oh ing that even tome of the ladies present jumped m and joined In the sport. In the end Mr Salmon was cap tr red and borne boma m triumph, and m years to come tbe event wi'l be remembered as one of the leading incidents m the histoiy of Llanbardan.'
