W. Leadley making application for pipes to convey storm water across the road dividing his and N. Fitzgerald's land.— The Snrveyoe was directed to Bee into the mattar as pipeß h*d been pat aoross the road years tgo.—Fcom 6 ratepayers asking for *. ttorrn water drain from Dsryar's corner to the Wakanui oreek,— Surveyor toihispeot. —From G. Tait, aaklog for a share of tbe * Board's work.— Received. — From N. Fltz- , r gerald asking the Board to consider a,• claim of his for work done on .Fairfield road. — It was resolved that the Board would not entertain the application, bat the Surveyor was instructed to return the . deposit made.
. . BUJftVE YOB'S R EOF ax. The Surveyor's report was reiuTas follows : —
(1 ) Fairfield Road.— The contract for part formation and metalling this road has been completed, subject to the approval of the Board. We have deduoted £2 from the amount of the contract on account of insufficient levelling and delay m delivering the metal.
(2.) Ploughing eideß of Crown of Roads, — We have had part of the Seafield road ploughed, other roads are being attended to.
(3.) New Ford, Vakanui Road.-^We interviewed Mr John Brown about A month ago with regard to the outlet for the water on this road. As he' objected to any interference with his fence, he stated he would interview tbe Board at their last meeting, bat failed to do ao, and as no outlet has yet been mado, we would, ' ask whether we should proceed m accordance with tho law and make it. At present a nuisance exists to pedestrians and sheep driving.
(4.) River Road. — The members of No. 2 Ward met the Council at the protective works on the 7th ult., and a minute in* spection was made. We understand the (Jounty Engineer will present a report to the Council for their consideration. In the meantime the member of the Ward instructed is. to make the approach to the River Road on the South side good. Owing to the" recent heavy floods the river has encroached half acioss the road, a few chains belov the bulwark. As the place was very dangerous, not only to traffic, but to the flat below we sent the maintenance man to assist m a temporary alleviation, There is no doubt that if some steps are not taken to protect this point it will soon be as bad as that portion that the bulwark now relieves. We consider the best way would be when the river is lower to ecoop a relieving Channel, and protect the bank with a row of railway iron piles and fencing wire, and the space between that and the bank filled with gorse and willows. There is but little doubt if action had been taken when this Board first appealed to the Council tbe present danger would have been averted.
(5.) Outfall Drain, Beach Road.— We have inspected this drain and find that it is becoming choked with gorse and rushes and nigger heads, the latter is caused by tbe drain being used as a water-race ; m fact it has been dammed up m one place m order to send the water back into one paddock. It is but little wonder that the drain is at present incapable of carrying tbe flood water for which it was intended.
(6.) Maintenance — The maintenance man's diary lies en the table.
Olaase 1. — It was resolved to deduot a snm of £1 for Inefficient levelling.
Clause 2. — The Surveyor was directed to have an opening made at once to allow the water to follow ita natural course,
Olaaae 4, — The Surveyor was ln« etrnoted to have willows planted la favorable places to prevent possible erioroaohment m other places.
With reference to petition re new road, it waa resolved that " the road between sections 7183 an 3 17166 be continued straight through to Wilson's road and that the land ba acquired m accordance with the Publio Works Act, 1882, Seotione 10 and 11" — The Surveyor waa instructed to proceed m the matter.
Clanse 0 — Resolved to call for tender*' for cleaning oat the drain to be m by noon on the 16th fast.
The report was adopted. DENOTATION.
Mr Maxwell interviewed the Board and stated that the culvert on Gibaoa'* road now that the drain bad been made by bia place was insufficient to carry off the water.
Left m tho hands of the members of the Board and the Surveyor.
Mr S, Brown also waited on the Board and enquired if they were going to take ony steps with regard to the present en* croaohment of the river.
Mr Brown was informed that the Board could not do anything further m the
matter, bat they intended planting willoira m eultable places.
After passing accounts, the Board adjourned.
