Auckland, July 1.
It ia understood that Mr Lake will not contest the Wai pa election, being content to leave the field to Major Jackson. The only candidate spoken of In opposition to Sir Maurice O'RorVe atManakan ia Mr S. S. Oaborne. :
Mr Mitohelson aonounoea that he is a candidate for Eden. In a farewell address to the electors of Maradon he says that the present position of the oolony iB such that it behovea every man, who has Its true interest at heart, to assist, by every, means m hia power m plaoing the country m the hands of those who are capable of bringing it back to a sound financial condition ; It is understood that Mr S. Vaile will be a candidate for a city seat m the interests of financial and railway reform; It 1b stated that Mr Jackman, Mr Pahi, and Mr Oalbeek Kemp will cintest the Rodney seat.
Mr Whitby addresaed a mnting tonlghk, stating his policy to be freetrade and retrenchment. A vote of conßdence waa paeeed at the close of tho addresß. :
