A special Jubilee Thanksgiving Service will be held m St Stephen's on Thursday evening next at 7.30 pm. The Venerable Archdeacon Harper, of Timaru, will preach the sermon. Mr Ellis has a gorgeous roßtrum, brilliantly lighted up, and disposes of his wares to the aooompamraent of a brisk fire of desoriptive and joking remarks. All sbrtß of goods, inducting watches and jewellery, brashware, stationery, ironmongery, |and pretty nearly every thing else are disposed of by Mr EIHb and his active assistants, with the rapidity of lightning, and money seemß to pour into the exchequer m a continuous stream. Mr Ellis' Bales are really worth going to see. The number of persons employed on the New Zealand railways is 4754 this year, as compared with 4733 last year.
