LARRIKINISM.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Last night between the hours of 9 and 10 p.m. one of the moat disgraceful rowß occurred which ithasever been my lot to observe sinoe I have been m ABhburton. It waß truly a perfect "Billingsgate" ' row. That suoh a drunken scene should have taken place, and been carried on withdut hindranoe, and that for a f nil v hour a volley of oaths should have been poured forth unabated to the utter disgust , and consternation of respectable citizens, and to the disgrace of this community, a crying shame to those who are respoov sible for the keeping of the peace. The scene was at the junotion of Peter and East streets, almost m the centre of the town, and was like .Pandemonium let loose. Where are our Police, for whose services we are taxed night and day to remunerate? that the ears of our wtver and families should be contaminated with such foul language as issued forth from youthful mouths last night m a pubHo ?^ street ; and where is theparentalrestralni' : and home influence that should htv« prevented each, a melanoholy sbectadlev and exhibition of rowdyism and vice m • the comparatively young ? I am, etc, OBSBRV«Bt
