THE ROSELLE CROSS SURPRISE PARTY

The above company gave one of their pleasing entertainments m the Town Hall, Kakaia, last night, to a crowded house. The performance opeßed with a selection by the orchestra, which was well received. The curtain then roße, and Messrs Roselle Bros, made their bow to the audienco, and performed some daring feats on the Roman rings, their graceful motions being continually applauded by tho onlookers. Mr Vinten rendered his '• Lower the Gas " m good form, although he waa evidently suffering from a slight cold. Then followed, what was undoubtedly the best item of the evening, namely, the sailor's hornpipe, by Mr Poland, for which he was loudly applauded, and had to respond to an enoore A song, by Mr H. Peat, "The British Lion" wbb well recelved. Mr Vinten'B reoltation, "The Fireman's Wedding/ wcs given with much force and pathos. The comic song, " O What a Mug,"--? rendered by Mr Sadler, was a great success, Mr Sadler's drollery fairly bringing down the house, and he had to respond to an undeniable encore. The violin bolo "Home Sweet Home," waa really a first-class item, Mr Wood proving himself a thorough musician. The first part of the entertainment was brought to a dose by a farce, entitled "The Boßton Traveller," which sent the house into convulsions. After an interval of ten minutes, the orchestra opened the second part by a tasteful aeleotion, followed by Harry, Ted and Arthur Rosalie, whose feats of strength were done with apparent ease and with a finish we have seldom seen equalled. A sand jig and clog danoe by Mr Roland, and some songs by members of the Company wer.e given, and the performance waß brought to a close by a sidesplitting farce, " The Barber's Block," which kept the audience m roars of laughter throughout. A dance followed, at whioh about twenty couples were present, and which was kept up till the "wee sma' hours." We understand it is theintention of the Surprise Party to give an entertainment at Mount Somers some time next week.
