ANOTHER VESSEL MISSING.
GIBBORNB, May 23. There is now little doubt that the wreckage on the beaoh is that of the Sir Donald. A piece of board four inches square has. been picked up, bearing the address of Mr Hans Baßsuiussen, the chief 000k and steward on board the Sir Donald, written on both sides m pencil, evidently the address on some parcel belonging to the cook. The beach is strewn for milea with wreckage, including timber, parts of vessel, combings of the hatch, with 28-88 tons on It, and also registered number 371C8. The ship's dock, also picked* up, stopped at ten minuteß to ' to seven. Complete search has been made along the beach for ten miles, but no trace of olothing or bodies has been found, The beach is sandy with outlying rooks. About a quarter of a mile from the beach is the vessel's mast projecting four feet above the water. The search {or bodies is still being kept up. Fears are entertained for the safety of the cotter Spitfire, which left Napier on Tuesday, and has not shown up yet. Napier, May 23.
It transpires that instead of the four men who formed the ordinary orew of
the hauds. There is no hope that any have been saved, though no bodies are yet washed ashore. The names of those on board were as follows .— John Quintan, captain; William Knight, mate; Walter Simmonds, engineer ; James Major, Fred Knight (brother of the mate), aeamen ; and Hans Basmasßen, cook. The sea waß tuo rough to send cut a steamer to-day, but one will be sent out tomorrow.
The Go-Abead has completely smashed up. Mr Provis, of the Customs Department, and Captain Davidson, agent for the Underwriters' Association, are m charge of the wreckage and cargo whioh is being washed on the beach.
