THE QUEEN'S JUBILEE.
-•— : The first meeting of the Committee appointed to consider the beat means of celebrating -the Queen's Jabilee was held at the County Council Chambers this •f ternooo. Mr 0. J. Harper occupied the chair, and there was a very large attendance. A number of apologies for non. attendance were read. The Chairman Btated that Mr T. Taylor, Ashton, m apologising for bis absence had forwarded a guinea. After discussion as to the method of brooedttre, Mr Pucnell moved, " That a Committee consisting of the Mayor and Borough Councillors, with power to add to their number, be appointad to carry out the arrangements m connection with oelebratlng the Jnbileeby festivities." Mr Grlgg seconded the. motion, which fu carried. The Mayor proposed his motion with regard to the establishment of an Industrial museum. He spoke to similar affeofc as at the recent public meeting. He referred to misconception which had arisen In regard to his proposal, and pointed out that it would not be an exchange as had been said. The institution, he maintained, would be of the utmost benefit to grain and wool growers, and it might also be utilised as the headquarters of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, so that that body's power of promoting the farming Interest would be largely increased. Strangers and intending settler* could obtain all information they requited as to the capabilities of the distrloM Mr D. H. Brown suggested that a dock Bhould be erected m connection with the building. The Mayor would be happy to Bee this done should funds permit. Mr Grlgg asked i f there wai power to ereot such a building on the Library reserve. The Mayor replied that he did not think there would be the slightest difficulty m obtaining such power Mr H; Friedlander seconded the Mayor's motion pro forma. Mr D. H. Browa pointed out that an annual mm of money would be required for the maintenance of the institution. [Left .Sitting.]
