TAMING HORSES IN NEW ZEALAND.
An English journal has the following : — As every body^ knows, Mr Rarey's system of taming vicious horses consisted mainly la throwing them on the ground and keeping them there by means of straps. The New Zaalanders have a much simpler and more effective method. They limply decoy a wild horsa into a swamp until all his logs are aeourely imbedded In it. They then prooeed to '* gentle " him, Well may tbe author nay : — <( Rarey's plan is nothing to thiß. There are no logs swinging about to burt anyone ; the oolt coold not batter hie bead on the ground ; the very babies oould jump on his ,baok with pt».rfot safety, and they were not slow to avail themselves of the opportunity. The women eat on him, tho men got aßtrlde on him, and then put a email log under his tail. The women shook their dresses m hie f»°e. Best of all, when the horse was dug oat he was quite tame."
