WAKANUI ROAD BOARD
A meeting of the Board was held on Saturday. Present—Messrs M Bruce (Chairman), J. Brown, W. T. LIU, G. Ooe* COBEBBPONBBNCB. Letter* were read :-(l) From Mr J. H. Baker, Commissioner of Crown Lands, advising that tho sum of £2 93 lid derived from the sale of land near Droraore would be paid to the Board on their showing on what part of the road it la proposed to spend the money.— The Surveyor was directed to reply that it would b« spent on the road fronting the ■ properties. (2) From Mr O. Oole, Chairman of meeting of ratepayers at Wakanui, forwarding the following resolution having reference to opening up a road from Elver road to Wilson's road .—-" That any action with regard to opening up a new road be deferred for the present." — Received. BTJBVJBYORS REPORT! The Surveyor's report was read aB follows:— (1) Fair field road : The oontraotor is at work on this road and should be finished m the course of a few days. —(2) Proposed new road : A meetiDg of ratepayers was held last Monday to oon•lder the question of stopping road tunning through Mr Meredith Wilson's ■eotlon 17166 and exchanging it for a road •long the eastern boundary of R.S. ' 14410, Mr Brown, the member for No 2 Ward, being m the chair. The meeting adopted the following resolution:— "That In the opinion of this meeting the road as sought for is not at all required for the benefit or convenience of the publio or the ratepayers of the dlatrot, and as the opening up of this road would mean • considerable expense, which would fall upon the ratepayers of the district, we, therefore, as ratepayers of the district, oppose the application as we consider the road asked for not only unnecessary but superfluous." — (3) Cor bett's road: We are having a bad culvert on this road taken up and a ford made m lieu thereof. — (4) Maintenance : The maintenance- man has been repairing roads requiring attention. ■Adopted. DEPUTATION. Mr R. Adams interviewed the Board .with reference- to their giving bim an outlet. He was at present beholden to neighbors for a way to town. Oomtnuni•ation not being restored m some manner - was very inconvenient and annoying. — Matter left over for future consideration. BAD CULVERTS AND FORDS. The Surveyor was directed to draw the County Council's attention to the broken oalvert on Cochrane'o road, Fairfield, and the fords on Wilson's road Wakanui. advertisements; It was resolved that for the future the Board's advertisements be inserted m the ■« Malll" only. BEACH ROAD. The Surveyor was direct 3d to hays footbridges erected on this road.
