*— Ihvbroahgull, May 8. Consequent on the reoent division of opinion between the Borough Council and the Union Bank re their method of drawing on municipal funds for harbor works m their dual capaolty of Council and New River Harbor Board, the Oounoil have tTanefetrod their bank aooount to the Bank of New Zaaland. The AuditorGeneral having cautioned the Oouncil that their practice was illegal, the Union Bank declined to honor the cheques for harbor workß, hence the rupture. Petitions for and against a Bill promoted by the Corporation to empower them to ereot water-works, pumping stations, and a tower on the town belt, are being prepared. The feeling of the ratepayers is m favor of the Council being allowed to proceed with the work, although it is oonsldered that the Bill should have been secured before breaking ground. The Oounoil ia committed to the amount of £15,000 on water Bupply. A Bill is also announced to enable the Oounoil as a Harbor Board to borrow £25,000 to pay oft the debt to the Corporation and Improve the oh»nnels m the town.
