♦ (FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) The following gentlemen were elected as members of the School Committee on Monday evening, April 25th :— Moesra W. T. Chapman (Chairman), J. Rosa (Treasurer), H. Muirhead, G. Goldßmlth, J. JRowe, S. FerguEon and T, Simpson. No excitement was exhibited aa m the previous year. Mr P. Tiach has succeeded m getting a temporary license for the hotel till the end of Jane, whon the whole question will oomo before the Licencing Committee, whose decision will be awaited with great interest. It is delightful to witness the energy and cheerfulness of the ten families who have pitched thoir wharea on tho new Government sections along the hill. It ia ft rod letter day for the working man to wal<c over twenty acres and exclaim with Selkirk, "I am monarch of all I ant vay. " The twenty pounds allowed to put up a houae is a gteat boon and eagerly sought for. Of course, the house must be built before the grant is obtained. Visions of homo-made freah butter, home* cured bacon, and home-grown mutton will add charms to the sleep of the contented laborer, whoso 'cry of scant employment will be heard no more, every available hour of spare time being profitably utilised Two more sections havo been allotted opposite the hotel, making a total of twelvo From this point of vantage can be seen the glistening tents of the Mount Somers and Springburn railway workers, weokby week moving Bteadi'y along fn wards the gaol, namely, between the Sprlngbum School and the pound. His life had been insured for £150, but through some mis-undeiotand-ing the policy had been, allowed to Upee,
