THE HEW ARCHBISHOP

Wellington. April 30. The "PoBt" baa the following particulars with reference to the erection of New Zealand into en an Archbishopric of ihe Roman Catholic Church -.—"Wellington is to be made an aroh diocese of the provlnoe of New Zealand. It la intended that the metropolitan see shall include Wellington, Taranaki, Hawke'a Bay, and Nelaon districts, And also part of. Westland. The Arcbißhop haa jurisdiction Immediately upon his election, but Dr Redwood's formal investment cannot take place for some moniha ; it ia necascary that he should first apply to the Vatican for the pallium as the additional part or his robe h called. The paVium must be brought from Rome by a Bishop or ho me other high r coleslaslical dignitary, and on Its arrival the ceremony of ita presentation will probably be oonduoted by the senior Bishop of the province, Dr Moran, of Dunedfn. His Brace the new Archbishop ii not likely to return to Wellington for about a fortnight, having yet to v<bH New Plymouth, and also to preach at the hying of the foundation atone of a new church at Onehunga. Meanwhile telegramß of cfngratulaticns are reaching him from tho Bißhors, Priests, and laity of the colony. Cardinal Moran, of Sydney, has also cabled to His Grace fn complimontar/ terms. It may be mentioned that Bishops Dunn (Brisbane) and I?6ynoldn (Adelaide) have also been eleo'ed to Archiepiscopa! rack.
