Wright, E B q., Dear Sir, — In your evidence In the case, myaelf v Kerr, yon Btated that "you had been grossly misrepresented by me m the ' Ashbnrton Mail ' for yean, concerning your actions m connection with the Mount Somors and Rakaia and Ashburton Forks Railways, and that if you had taken me up on the latter railway you could hare wen the bet." That statement I consider to be unwarranted, and has been the oause of giving me considerable pain of mind, hb I am fully sensible of fche faof that m 'fighting a oauee against; you m favor of the public, whom I am sure are entirely with me, and against you, m this matter, that I was only dißoharging my daty as an independent jonrnaliot and independent representative. I muat call upon you now to proceed with the enquiry aod m order to foroe that upon you I am quite willing to include the Mount Somero Railway with the exception of the paltry and ludiorouß allusion to the hire of the boggy incident. As an honorable public man yon will no doubt be glad of this opportunity being afforded you of olearing yourself from the groBS misrepresentation which yon have complained has been going on for years m the articles of my paper. You surely cannot refuse now to deposit your cheque for £50 with mine for a similar amount to abide the deciilon of an impartial i Committee to be appointed by us, and if I should be adjudged by that Committee to.be m r ive Veong I shall be" prepared to retract' all that has appeared 'ia the mid artiolea, to tender yoa an ample apology, and to forfeit the sum of £50 m favor of a local charity, if you will do the ■ame m tfcp event of your being adjudged to t>o In tne wrong, * Tours Respectfully.
