Sir, — Laßt winter when It was reported m your paper that men In want of work were to be brought hither from Christoburoh to be employed upon Government work, you were good enough to publish a letter from me stating that many residents were Idle and would be glad to earn eomathlng to help oarry them through the winter. Mr Walk6r, In his dual capacity ai M.H.R. and County Chairman, m the most kind manner took the matter up, the result being some seven or eight weeks, work for which I, amongst others, was very grateful. From some remarks which fell from Or Harrison at the last meeting of the Borough Counoil, it appears that last year's action of the authorities is being repeated, so I must once more aßk yoa to assist myself and o'hera who are m need of work to support our families, by drawing the attention cf our looal authorities to the necessity and justice of seizing that the looal unemployed should have a share of the Government work In our district during the coming winter. If it be piece work, bo much the better, for it will avert the occasion of unpleasant reflections as to the amount of work done. I am far from wishing to rabe the unemployed howl m our midst, but facts are stubborn things a>id mujt be faced. I am, etc. Laborer Aahbnrton, April 15, 1887.
