THE ALBANY MEMORIAL AT CANNES.

INAUGURATION BY THE PRINCE OF WALES.

(from our paeis cobresfondbnt.) This important oeremony took place on (he 12th last. (February), precisely at 3 o'clock; The Prince of Wales, acoompan led by Prince George of Wales, and the Grand Duke and Daohess of Baden, arrived punctually. His Royal Highn«si was accompanied by a flourish ef trumpata. The read was lined by troops, and there was an finmonie gathering to witness the ceremony. The Royal party were conducted to the seats reserred for them, by the Bight Rev D. Barton, Bishop of Gibraltar. They were reoelved at tht door ef the church by the Rer Mr Berford, the chaplain, the clergy, and the ohoriaters. It will be remembered that the corner stone of the new English' Church erected by the English colony In memory of the Dnke of Albany who died at the Villa Nevada was laid last year, on the 27th of February, by H.R.H. the Prince of Wales. Tbo Church io built m the early English Gothic style, and is a very pr«tty building. The roof is Guvered with red tiles brought from England. It is ornamented with five crosses tastefully carved m fine grained Tarasoon stone. The walla are of the name material. .The arohea and columns which support the nave are light and elegant. The polplt, a gift of Mr Lnoaa, from London,' is very finely ornamented with marble of various colors. The east window and reredos, of polished limestone, are the gift of Mr Bland. The font is a gift of Mr Barnald Hall. The mosaic floor, all the windows, and the heating apparatus have come from London The whole of the carved oak roof was made oi the spot, The benoher, m English style, are of oedar. The altar rail for the Royal Chapsl has also come from England, as well as the mosaics, whloh Me enquialte and of a mofet elaborate and ornate design. This, the Memorial Chapel has a niche for the bunt of the late Duke of Albany. A beautiful tt itue of St. Q eorge, above the entrance door, ii the work of a young Englishman, Mr Pomeroy, who oame from England enpreealy fur this work. The exeoation Is admirable. The wrought iron grille gates of the ohapel are wonderfully executed. ' The service waa sung with much devotional feeling by the members of the oholrs of Christ C hutch and St. Paul's, and the service dosed with the benediction, pronounced by the Bishop. The Pciuoe of Wales left the Churoh at five o'clock, and was again saluted by a flourish of trumpets. A meat artistic aooirenir of the death of tbe Duke of Albany hea been executed by at French artiet, M. J. Simons. It is m the form of an album, and the artist proposes to aak the Queen of England to accept the original drawings. The Illuminated title page is bordered with crape ; a star m the sky is disappearing behind a monumental atone. The next sheet repre eats the arms of England correctly b*» zjned, and'framed by a fan formed of palms ; In th'j distance a sunset on the aoa. The last pige oontalna a portrait of the late Duke, and a veiled figure m mourning representing the Duoheis, The lower part is framed by an anchor, representing the maritime attributes of England, and a band, inaoribed sacred to the memory of H. R. H. the Duke of Albany. There are a number of other varied designs, the last of which is a representation of the ohapel just consecrated the work is altogether worthy of the occasion, and the artist may be congratulated on his soov cesaful exeoutlon of an admirable serlffe of designs.
