CEMETERY MANAGEMENT.
70 THE EDITOR.
Sib, — As one of Ihe public of Ashbur— ton, I think your article re Cemetery management is very opportune, and your suggestions good.
Even supposing a person prefers to own the plot which to all intents and purposes becomes so sacred to him, is not the Bum of two guineas excessive, considering the land ib given by tho Government? .
Also Ijwould ask, should not the trustees be accountable to those interested, viz., tho public, rather thun to the very last person m the colony likely to be interested ? Has any Governor, at any time, here or elsewhere, ever appointed anyone to inspect such accounts ? It is not that one has any misgiving with regard to such accounts, but surely everything should be above board for the credit of the Trustees, and to the interest of all concerned.
Hoping that yourself and 'others will farther take this matter m hand, I am, etc., One ok the Public. Ashburton, April 7th, 1887.
