MR IVESS AT RAKAIA.
-Last evening M r J. Ivesj, M H.R. fo* tho Waka:-ut diVrlct, addressed a meeting of elector* m the Town Hall, Sctth Rakaia. There wos a very good attend* anco, and Me E. S. Coster occupied the chair. — Mr John Holmes, M.H.R., was also on tho platform. Mr Ivtaa was received with applause and likened to throughout with attention. The address waa a similar one to that given m Ashburtoij, a report of whioh hat already appeared m our columns. The meeting was a most orderly one through' out. The reply to questions, Mr Tress said he was unaware that any member of the House had miaoooduoted himself at Belt* amys, and he thought Mr Scotland's remarks were uncalled for. — He was m favor of leaving tbe question of holding irique ta in the hands of the pollot and tho J .micas, and he was m favor of doing away with Coroner's juries.- — The MagUtrateß reoelv«a good salaries, and should not be paid for holding inquest!.— He was m favor of tbe holder of an acre section being allowed to take ap larger ' holdings under the leasing system.— H« wa.s m favor of Goverumoat giving loans for Irrigation purposes — He did not think mbnuera of tbe Houoo abuaed the privileges of holding a free railway pass. On the m tion of Mr Hardy, seconded by Mr J. Holmes, a vote of thanks and oonhdunoj was passed to Mr Ivess. A vote of thanks to the oh&ir ermiaated the proceeedinga.
