AN M.H.R. ON THE UNEMPLOYED
Talking about the unemployed question, Mr Fergus, MH.R., said the other day that he onoe employed a number of those worthies m the Nor h Island at 8a a day, aud added :—" Well, a nurabet cf the men came down but they did not like it ; and how long did they think they were |at work? Not one of them was there 48 hours afterwards, because they Wbre expected to work, and were put m a position where they oou'd not help working— viz., wheeling barrows over. a plank with one good man ahead of them and one good man behind them, so that they had to get along Borne way. No, they would rather be earning 4s 6d among the unemployed m a large towo than do a fair day's work for Ba.
