THE MAORI MURDER
Bawbri, March 22.
The body of Kalhai, the N»tivo woman, on a charge of murdering whom Te Pehinero la under arrest, was returned this morning, and &d inquest was opened «t Otakeho before Mr 0. A. Wray, Coroner. The medical evidence given as the result of the post mortem examination was very conclusive as to the woman having been brutally murdered Her skall wad found to be fractured, the breast snushed m, and extensive injury had been done to the abdomen, arms and legs, and In faot all parts of the body were more or less injured, but the neck was not found dislooated, as had been expected, owing to ourrent rumors. After medical evidence had been given, Inspector Pardy applied fur an adjournment till Monday, April 4th. Thsre is immense difficulty In getting evidence, the Natives declining to give any assistance, to make any statement, or m any way to countenance the proceedings, but tbe police hope before the inquest is renewed to have obtained some Information which will enable them to brine; the crime home.
