THE SOUNDS.
A CHANCE FOR HOTELKEEPERS. At the mayoral banquet m Dunedin, his Exoollenoy Sir William Jervois said, as daring hln stay here he had paid a visit to the Sound)*, be wai led to say that m hie opinion the sounds and lakes m the south' went of Npw Zealand would become tho gre^t playground of Australasia, at Hwitzarland *as now the playground of Europe. He had read recently a financial acoount of theenormoui business done by hotels In Sw'tz rland. Not having speoially noted the figuren at tho time, he would not venture to repeat them, but they were very large, and he believed that as the time cam a t> have hotels established at the various lakns, and at the heads of the various Bounds— with roads from the sounds to the lakes, the Bouth*wft«t portlonn of this part of Now Zealand must become; aa he had said the playground of AuaiTalania. He had talked this matter over with some business friends of hia with the view of getting them, whon the proper time arrived, to establish hotels at the lakes and at the heads • f the sounds, and he considered i* no UtopUn fancy th*t they might have a large population growing up m thoso parts of Now Zaaland who | might derive their maintonanoo from tbo tourists who would visit thosn placos.
