Wellington, Maroh 10. Lieutenant-Colonial Roberts has been appointed Commandant of the Permanent Mtlitia. At the inquest on David Kirk who, on Wednesday, waß found dead, suspended by the neck m his own »Üble, a verdict of " Death by hanging while temporarily insane" was returned. A butcher named Gardiner m giving evidence said that when ha w»8 called aud saw the deceased hanging, instead of going m ajid cutting him down he went away, returning with another man. He mid ho thought it was wrong tj cut down a body befora the police came. The Coroner pointed out this was a mistake.
