Mr R. D. Campbell, writing to the " Wanganui Chronicle " says : — One and all who have trees affeoled with this pest should try this remedy during winter. Trees whioh have been infe.ted should be thoroughly soraped of all loose b .rk aod prunings burned ; then apply a dressing such as is recommended for winter dressing ln the case of red spiders , American fruit growers r.Bort to the following simple method of trapping tho caterpillara bb they oreep about looking for a resting plaoe. They tie bands of old sacking round the stems of the trees, not far from the ground ; there bands should be ex» amlned once a week, when large nuinbei s of caterpillars are usually found ; kill all. A band of soft soap, or G shurt's compound, laid thickly round the stem, a few inches wide, acts as Bird Lime and they can't get by. Try It. See Handbook, New Zealand Gardening.
