WAKANUI ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Wakanui Road Board was held nt the Board's office, Moore street, on Saturday. Present : — Messrs Bruce (Chairman), and Cole.
RESOLUTION NEGATIVED.
A letter waa read from the County Council with referenoe to the determlna-
tion arrived at, at a public meetiug held at the Wakanui Schoolroom, to olobq a certain road, stating that the Council had after consideration deoided to negative the resolution passed by the meeting. SURVEYORS' REPORT.
The Surveyors' report was read as _ follows:— (1) Wakanui Road; We have li had ford made on this road opposite i Brankin'a and In line of channel. — (2) Lead ley's road : A ford hai been made opposite Pitt's, a bridge over Leadley'a drain opposite Sinclair's, and access over drain to Butterick's section has been renewed,— (3) Stanley road ; The bridge on this road haa been repaired. — (4) A fence has been erected at gully opposite j Wesleyan Church. — (6) Milton rpad :We have had ford made on this road m lieu of J culvert damagd and unsafe. — (6) Inues < road : In conjunction with the member representing the ward we have had the orown of this road made higher ln plaoes, '. it being bad for traffic m winter time. ' The race near the mill will also be < deepened when water is shut off, which is expeoted shortly.— (7) Road through Mesars Wilson and Jameaon'a : The owner of the land adjacent to the road proposed to be exchanged being agreeable, we have In accordance with the Public Works Aot and consent of the members representing the ward, given publio notice of the exohange. Mr Jameaon will alao meet the Board with reference to price for land requested for the new road. — (8) Fairfield road : The contractor, for metalling the road commenced hia work jaat previous to last meeting and Btatea that on receipt of letter stating that oontrao. would be terminated, as it waa not commenced at expiration of contract time, he left the work, though we wrote to him on the day of the meeting communicating the Board's decision to accede to his request for extension and also visited the work at midday on the following Monday. — (9) Gorse cleaning : The man is still at work cleaning gors_ off the roads on the Falr- , field estate The report was adopted. THE PROPOSED NEW ROAD. ' i Messrs Leddy and Fitzgerald waited on ; the Board m reference to the new road ) which i. proposed to be taken through ' Mr Jameson's property. — Mr Leddy ooms plained that the road would only be con- , veulent to two ratepayers, and he proi tested against the Board spending money . for such a purpose. He suggested that a i road Bhould be taken through Mr Brown's . land parallel to the riv.r road. Mr FitzI gerald said that if the road were • to be laid out it would be only fair that a publio meeting should - be called to discuss the quest : oa. If the I river should overflow the uew road would a be a good lead for it. He and his fellow j. deputationißt did not feel justified m i paying rates unless tbey had a road more i direct than the one proposed. , Th. matter was left over till further i consideration. i CONTRACT. f Mr N. Fl'zgerald waited on the Board • with reference to his contract on Fairfield r road and asked to be paid for work he ' had done. ? Tho Board declined to entertain the 1 request. _ CHAFF. . The tender of — Tlraras, at £3 5s per , ton was accepted for chaff. ? The Board then adjourned.
