EXTRAORDINARY SHOOTING AFFAIR IN KENT.

Carter, the eldest son of one of the oonnty families, seems to hare got mixed up with the Consolidated Credit and Mortgage Corporations. The Corporation held a .bill of sale for £600 over a kennel of valuable dogs, and a quantity of rare books which Mr Carter had at Kinnington. Within the last few days attempts have been made to levy under the bill of sale, but Mr Carter kept his premises locked . Late on Monday night the agent was surroanding the premises with a party of men. Shortly before midnight Mr Carter arrived from London with a party of 20 men, whom he had brought down with him. These overpowered the paity seeking to make the seizure, and enabled Mr Carter to enter his house. Oasea of ohampagne and other materials for oon- — viviality were hauled m at the upper windows, and the party prepared for a carouse within. Mr O*rter then appeared at an upper window and called out, " Now, where is the man who represents the Consolidated?" A Mr Baldwin, of New Wandsworth, stepped forward and said "lam he." Mr Carter then Baid, *' Now, I Rive you fair warn- . fn? that if you do not get off my premises when I have told you three times to do so, I will shoot you." Mr Baldwin replied that he was m legal possession, and he should remain: Mr Carter repeated his warning twice, and then instantly fired at Baldwin from ajrevolver, the shot striking the baloony under which he stood close to htm. A man named Frederick WiUon called out •' Ton scoundrel, to fire at a man m that way." Carter immediately fired down upon Wilson, the shot taking affect In the upper part of his head, tearing through a hard felt hat that he wore, and some of it entering his right eye and temple. Wilson fell into the arms of Baldwin, and was conveyed to the Ashford Cottage Hospital. The polios formed a cordon round the house, and remained all night, not daring to enter. In the meantime Carter and his party were heard carousing within. A warrant for his apprehension was procured and preparations were made for breaking into the house, but Me Carter, the 11 o'clock, parleyed with the police from the window, and agreed to give himself up, provided the party who wanted to make seizure," was not allowed to enter. This was eompieted with, and he came out accompanied by two females smoking a oigarotte. He was driven m a ohaise to Ashford, ' brought np at the Police Court m the oourae of the day, and re* manded.
