THE FIRST MARRIAGE IN MADAGASCAR.
-— — _- ♦ The first English marriage at Anfaoanarivo, the capital of Madagascar^ was celebrated on September 9, m the Faravehitra Church between Miss Anderson, daughter of the Rev Dr Anderson, of Glasgow, and Rer J. G. Thome. From the Madagascar Times we learn that the occasion was one of general rejoicing amongst the British community there. Tbe bride proceeded to the ohuroh at 10 a.m., aooompmied by eight English girls, dressed m bine and white, as bridesmaids. Most of the foreigners were present at the ceremony, and the native orowd was so great that admission had to be regulated by tioket. After the ohuroh service was over, the oivil ceremony was performed by H.8.M.. vice-oonaul at the British vice-consulate, and at noon the newlymarried couple were entertained to breakfast by their British friends. The Queen and the Prime Minister showed their in* terest In the oeremony by fending a messenger to the ohuroh with a letter, of congratulation ._ ■ . .
