He bad smoked one cigar, and had jnst lighted another wliHn the door of the ante room suddenly opened, and the Czar entered Knowing how autocratically particular Alexander 111 is ns to any breacu of Court etiquette, the Count hastily snatched the cigar from hie lipa with a view of throwing it down and putting hie foot on it, wlwn the Czar, noticing his aide-de-camp's suddea*confusion, aud oatching sight of th < lighted end of the cigar, awl associating it with a burning fuse or some such lling, drew hia revolver and ehot the Count through the risjht lung. The unlucky officer was not k Hed on the sp t, but he died after great suffering m about two days.
