[MTJT*b’S TELEGRAMS—COPYRIGHT.] MELBOURNE MARKETS. Melbourne. December 15. Messrs Goldsborough and Co held their usual weekly sale this afternoon. There was a large attendance of buyets. The catalogue comprised ba.es, and 4000 were sold. Competition was brisk, and good prices were realised for light sound merinos, fine cross bred, and superior lambs, but broad merinos, short combings and ordinary scoured wools were in poor demand ; greasy wool sold up to n>4d, scoured to ryd and washed fleeces to 13d.
THE POSTAL CONFERENCE.
In the Legislative Assembly, trus afternoon, Mr Derham, PostmasterGeneral. made a statement in reference to the Postal Conference recently held in this city. He announced that it had been decided to make an offer to the Orient and Peninsular and Oriental Companies for a weekly service to Adelaide ol thirty-two days. If an unsatisfactory reply were received from these Companies the service would be readvertised, but in no case would a contract be given to foreign Companies. Mr Derham asked the House not to demand furrier details at the present time. He stated that intercolonial penny post cards would be adopted.
