PENSIONS IN THE UNITED STATES
Bradatreet’a writing of pensions in *ha United States, say. : —Some of the results of the pension legislation of recent years are apparent in the annual report of the 'ommlsaioner of Pensions for the last fiscal year. It appears that daring that year, notwithstanding the number of names dropped from the rolls beoanse of death and other reasons there was a net increase in the number on the rolls of more than twenty thousand names. The annual average value of each pension also increased, and the aggregate annual value of the pensions showed an augmentation of between six and seven million dollars as compared with the preceding fiscal year. The tendency of recent pension legislation, it a ill be seen, has been the reverse of niggardly.
