A WOMAN KILLS A PANTHER
A huge dan-colored panther, which for several weeks terrorised the people about Bouse’s Grove, eight mites from Tolono, 111, was billed recently by a woman who there y saved the lives of her two little girls. t’ho plucky woman was Mrs Mont* calm, who was on her way from Indian Territory to her former home, near Cleveland . Some years ago she and her fans* went west, where ihe latter waa killed. Left with two children, the woman loaded her goods on a waggoi and started on the long journey to her Ohio Home*. She reached Boose's Grove yesterday, and Mrs M mtoalm stopped and began to get dinner. The children wandered off into - the bash, and when the mother called them to dinner she got no answer. Fear* in ’ something was wrong, she took hei rifle from the waggon and started for the wood near by. Before going fat e moving branch of a tree attracted her attention, and on going nearer she discovered a large panther preparing to spring on her children, who were lying asleep at the foot of a tree. Mrs Montcalm drew a bead on the pan’her, and shot it through the body. JaniOn Fabert and D. W# Smith, wto were attracted by the shot, offered to help her remove the pelt, bat she performed the work herself, and took the pelt with her when she resumed her journey.
